72. The Jinn

 

43rd un-initialed sura, 36th un-initialed revealed, 40th revealed overall

 

In the name of God, the All Gracious, the All Merciful

 

 

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

        قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ اسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْآنًا عَجَبًا

Say, it has been revealed to me that a number of Jinns listened, then, said, we indeed heard a wonderful Quran.

         يَهْدِي إِلَى الرُّشْدِ فَآمَنَّا بِهِ وَلَنْ نُشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَا أَحَدًا

It guides to righteousness, therefore, we have believed in it and we will never set anyone as a partner for our Lord.

           وَأَنَّهُ تَعَلَى جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا اتَّخَذَ صَحِبَةً وَلا وَلَدًا

And He is indeed exalted; He is the one, our Lord. He never had a spouse or a son.

                 وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى اللَّهِ شَطَطًا

And indeed only the fools amongst us used to say such nonsense about God2653.

      وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّا أَنْ لَنْ تَقُولَ الإنْسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا

And we never thought that humans and jinns could ever utter lies about God2654.

   وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِنَ الإنْسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍ مِنَ الْجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمْ رَهَقًا

And indeed, there were men among humans who took refuge with men among the Jinns, but they increased their humiliation.

           وَأَنَّهُمْ ظَنُّوا كَمَا ظَنَنْتُمْ أَنْ لَنْ يَبْعَثَ اللَّهُ أَحَدًا

And they thought for sure just like you thought that God2655 will never resurrect anyone.

      وَأَنَّا لَمَسْنَا السَّمَاءَ فَوَجَدْنَاهَا مُلِئَتْ حَرَسًا شَدِيدًا وَشُهُبًا

And we touched the sky; we then found it full of stern guards and projectiles.

    وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ مِنْهَا مَقَاعِدَ لِلسَّمْعِ فَمَنْ يَسْتَمِعِ الآنَ يَجِدْ لَهُ شِهَابًا رَصَدًا

We indeed, used to sit there in stations to listen; but anyone who listens, will find a watchful projectile chasing him.

   وَأَنَّا لا نَدْرِي أَشَرٌّ أُرِيدَ بِمَنْ فِي الأرْضِ أَمْ أَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَدًا

And we surely do not know whether the worst is intended for those on the land, or whether their Lord wills to guide them.

     وَأَنَّا مِنَّا الصَّلِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَلِكَ كُنَّا طَرَائِقَ قِدَدًا

And indeed some of us are righteous, and some of us less than that, we follow different paths.

 وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّا أَنْ لَنْ نُعجِزَ اللَّهَ فِي الأرْضِ وَلَنْ نُعْجِزَهُ هَرَبًا

And we know that we can never defeat God2656 throughout the land, nor can we frustrate Him by fleeing.

     وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا الْهُدَى آمَنَّا بِهِ فَمَنْ يُؤْمِنْ بِرَبِّهِ فَلا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلا رَهَقًا

And once we heard the guidance, we believed in it, consequently whoever believes in his Lord, then he will never fear adversity and never suffer any humiliation.

  وَأَنَّا مِنَّا الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا الْقَسِطُونَ فَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ فَأُولَئِكَ تَحَرَّوْا رَشَدًا

And surely, some of us are submitters and some of us are compromisers. As for those who are submitters then they have sought guidance.

                    وَأَمَّا الْقَسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبًا

And as for the compromisers, they will be fuel for Hell.

       وَأَلَّوِ اسْتَقَمُوا عَلَى الطَّرِيقَةِ لأسْقَيْنَهُمْ مَاءً غَدَقًا

Had they remained on the straight path, We would have provided for them abundant water.  

 

5462 2719 1051 660 1446 17

     لِنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ وَمَنْ يُعْرِضْ عَنْ ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِ يَسْلُكْهُ عَذَابًا صَعَدًا

For we test them therewith. And if anyone turns away from the commemoration of his Lord, He will cause him an increasing punishment.

               وَأَنَّ الْمَسَجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلا تَدْعُوا مَعَ اللَّهِ أَحَدًا

And the Mosques belong to God2657; therefore, do not call upon anyone with God2658.

   وَأَنَّهُ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًا

And yet indeed when God2659’s servant stood up calling Him, they almost all banded together to oppose him.

                   قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَدْعُو رَبِّي وَلا أُشْرِكُ بِهِ أَحَدًا

Say; I only call upon my Lord and do not set anyone as a partner for Him. 

 

5466 2723 1055 664 21

                   قُلْ إِنِّي لا أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلا رَشَدًا

Say; I indeed do not possess any harm or benefit for you. 

 

5467 2724 1056 665 22

     قُلْ إِنِّي لَنْ يُجِيرَنِي مِنَ اللَّهِ أَحَدٌ وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِنْ دُونِهِ مُلْتَحَدًا

Say; no one can protect me from God2660 and I will never find another refuge besides Him.

إِلا بَلغًا مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرِسَلتِهِ وَمَنْ يَعْصِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَإِنَّ لَهُ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَلِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا
